The Marty Heiser Show

Healthcare Roundtable: Thursday, April 3, 2008 Broadcast

Sunday, March 30, 2008

Host: Dr. Ed Volpintesta, Primary Care Physician, has practiced family medicine for more than 30 years in Bethel, Connecticut. "All Health Care Is Local" is another show Dr. Volpintesta did on Ideas at Work and Beyond.

Guests: Dr. Randy Trowbridge, an area physiatrist (a doctor who specializes in rehabilitation and management of pain.)

Mr. Mark Thompson, the executive director of the Fairfield County Medical Association, which has a membership of about 1800 doctors.

Description:
Healthcare is on everyone’s mind. Whether one is rich or poor, healthy or ill, young or old, married or single, health care is seen by all as too expensive—in fact paying for medical bills is often cited as the number one cause of personal bankruptcy. In addition the system is seen as impersonal. New technology and new tests certainly play their part but much of unhappiness is aimed at the insurance companies.

When we read about the CEOs’ multimillion dollar salaries and their stock options many people get enraged. Others feel that a health system that is responsible to stockholders just doesn’t make any sense. I believe only the US and South Africa are the only industrialized countries that don’t have a universal health care system.

On the show, we will talk about Medicare and the recent Medicare advantage program which is a Medicare HMO handled by private insurers and how it may not be as good a thing as seniors have been led to believe. Finally we will spend a little time discussing how the medical liability system contributes to the high cost of health care.

Dr. Volpintesta can be reached at (203) 744-1639 or 155 Greenwood Ave, Bethel, CT -

Ethiopia Orphan: March 20, 2008 Broadcast.

Thursday, March 20, 2008

Guest: Tom Mustico, HOE Ministries Inc.

The discussion will center around HOE Ministries, 501-c3 non-profit corporation and the work we do with and for the orphan children in Ethiopia. There are countless numbers of orphaned and homeless children throughout the country of Ethiopia. Approximately 50% of the 75,000,000 population are under the age of 18, an enormous number of which are homeless living in abject poverty or have been orphaned as a result of the AIDS pandemic. There is great need in Ethiopia which can only be as met with aid and support from the affluent countries of the world, and more specifically, the Christian community right here in the USA, starting in our own backyard.

I will share stories from the children I have encountered in my trips to Ethiopia as well as what I saw during my travels. Poverty is more than just being poor, it is a death sentence, a life without hope. Children living with no hope and most traumatized by helplessly living through the horror of watching their parents slowly and painfully die from this dreadful disease.

There is much to be done on their behalf and we have the ability come along to protect, rescue and equip these little ones. I plan to speak on behalf of millions of voiceless voices crying out for compassion.

Blessings,

Tom Mustico

The Third Corner of the Tri-State is Cut: March 20, 2008 Broadcast.

Guests:
Matt Grimes: Brookfield Republican Town Committee
Gene Eriquez: Former Mayor, Danbury (1989-2001)
Al Robinson: Publisher, HatCityBLOG

Eliot Spitzer was, at the same time, one of the most admired and one of the most reviled leaders in New York state history. The energetic and powerful Attorney General who rose to political prominence as the "Sheriff of Wall Street" and rode that tidal wave to the Governor's mansion, resigned in disgrace this week after being caught in the trap he himself helped set for prostitution rings. Spitzer's fall from political stardom marks the third resignation of a Tri-State Chief Executive in just over three years as the Empire State's self-proclaimed steamroller joined Connecticut's John Rowland and New Jersey's James McGreevey. Tonight's show, we discuss the Spitzer resignation and what lies in store for new Governor David Patterson, who made history as he became America's fourth African-American Governor and the first state leader to be legally blind.

Problems in the Schools

Wednesday, March 19, 2008

I really don’t know why everyone is so surprised at this teacher, in Texas, calling these students stupid. It doesn’t just happen there. I not only witness, teachers calling kids pathetic, ignorant, or telling them to sit the hell down, they also get away with harassing parents. No matter how many times you report them to the principal of the school, or the board of Ed nothing is done about it. If a student did anything wrong, he or she would get suspended or reprimanded. They always have an excuse to cover up what the teachers do wrong. I strongly advise all parents to question their kids after school on how their day went. If the only way to catch what’s going on at your child’s school is by placing a recorder in their backpack, then do so, because this is going on in too many schools and something has to be done about it.

Anna Nicole Smith Confronted Her Son for Stealing

Tuesday, March 18, 2008

from The Nassau Guardian
According to Anna Nicole's former lover, during the Easter weekend in April 2006, Anna Nicole noticed that a bottle of her methadone medication was missing, after she returned from spending a few days in a hotel in California. Birkhead said Daniel was the only one at home at the time, but he denied taking the medication.

"Anna did not believe that he was telling the truth, so we reviewed the home security tape and observed Daniel moving the methadone. Anna told Daniel she saw the tape with him taking it, but Daniel still did not admit to moving it," Birkhead said.

He added that Daniel had two friends over when the incident happened, and after he searched the lower level of the house where Daniel stayed, he observed alcohol bottles in the garbage and stated that it appeared as if 'someone had a party'.
