Immediate Press Release from Helena Abrantes (D) Candidate for Danbury for Mayor

Thursday, June 14, 2007

For Immediate Release
by Helena Abrantes (D), Candidate for Danbury Mayor

Danbury – Democratic candidate for Mayor, Helena Abrantes, called upon Mayor Boughton to “step up” assume the role as leader of our community and effectively address continued growing concerns throughout the city about the state of racial and ethnic relations.

“Danbury historically has fostered and maintained an environment where people of all races, religions, ethnicities and personal preferences were not only welcome, but embraced. This is what has made Danbury strong throughout its long and proud history,” Abrantes said. “This Mayor, through his actions and his words, has done nothing but polarize this community time and time again by pitting people against people, playing politics for personal gain with those of extremist and destructive views over the best interests of all the people of our city, and playing on the emotions of the so-called hot issues of the day at the expense of our City’s reputation,” she went on to say.

“As Mayor, I would have been present and available to the community at the New Hope Baptist Church to assure concerned members of our city that there would be a thorough and exhaustive investigation regarding the incident that recently occurred at the Danbury Fair. I would charge the Chief of Police to report to me his findings within 10 days. This is a situation that requires full public disclosure once all the facts are determined and immediate and appropriate action, if warranted,” Abrantes stated.

“This Mayor was absent and noncommittal regarding the kind of investigation that this incident demands and displayed a lack of leadership in addressing the serious concerns expressed by African- American citizens of our community in particular.” Our Mayor must be sensitive and genuinely concerned about the sentiments and feelings of each and every member group representative of our city,” said Abrantes. “People over politics is nothing more than an empty slogan and has been proven to be a ‘dyslectic’ approach in the governance of our city under this Mayor,” she further stated.

I have eaten at the restaurant and everyone that I have met there is not illegal. I'm sure that you have never eaten there. It's sad but that is not what this letter is about, its about the hostility being generated in this city. This used to be a wonderful city where people actually liked each other.

Great press release.

To anon: I'd say this is still a wonderful city where people actually like each other. Just go to the public library any weekend for a first-hand reminder of all the good will and respect that exist here in Danbury.

And we need a mayor like Helena to keep that civility alive.

A mayor needs to put the interests and needs and safety of the LEGAL residents first and foremost.
That is an elected officials sworn duty.

Legal or illegal, the safety of ALL people is the sworn duty of ANY elected-official.

ALL people ARE protected by the constitution, PERIOD.

Now hurry up, you're going to miss Elise Marcaino's meeting at the American Legion.

She has no chance of winning.
Is this the best the Dems have to offer?
Any candidate who panders to illegals and their supporters will never win.
Boughton...landslide again.

The job of an elected official is to protect the citizens and have secure borders and keep them safe from invasions from people who are here illegally breaking laws and plotting to do citizens harm and spreading diseases because they snuck in medically unchecked.
Also to not let criminals in illegally.

I have an answer for your problem: Move to Hazelton!

BTW: This press release has NOTHING to do with illegal immigration. You must be a follower of Elise Marciano because you sound just as stupid as she is.

Man..again,the campaign of misinformation by T, Marciano, and McGowan. This incident had NOTHING to do with immigrants, illegal or other. And as for putting safety of citizens, above non citizens, how ignorant it would be to think that allowing violence against immigrants would not be a "Public" safety issue. When an immigrant is attacked, robbed, raped, or assaulted, typically the one attacking would not know whether the person were documented or not before performing the attack. That means, they would walk up to any citizen, just the same. As for the disease thing, man, even Lou Dobbs had to issue a Mea Culpa on that one. There is no tangible evidence of that whatsoever. So please stop spreading this racist garbage.

Illegal aliens re-introducing and spreading diseases that havent been seen in the USA for generations is no myth.

Calling it racist is simply misleading and dangerous.
This is VERY serious.
Illegal aliens sneaking into the USA are not checked medically and bring with them many 3rd world diseases.

Heres just a couple links to get educated.

Is illegal immigration the only real issue in Danbury? I cannot believe that we are not exposing other issues that are affecting Danbury!
commented by Anonymous Anonymous, 9:33 AM
This is election! Please let's talk about other issues for the sake of the people.

Some of the people writing in to this blog are outright scary, not to mention the most ill informed and ignorant people I and others have encountered. The Danbury Fair incident has nothing - ABSOLUTELY NOTHING - to do with immigration issues. It is about the fair and LEGAL treatment of Danbury CITIZENS! Stop the divisiveness! This is a federal issue that the worst President in modern history has allowed to fester. In Danbury, we should elect a Mayor that truly understands the issues, can protect our interests and do so in a strong yet compassionate manner. ELECT HELENA ABRANTES ... FOR CHANGE FOR DANBURY'S FUTURE!

Mayor Mark will win by a LANDSLIDE..again!
Deal with it.

Yes..it IS about illegal aliens.
The people are speaking now.
Abrantes will NEVER be mayor.

Why don't you ask Mark Boughton how many times his wife has gone to Brazil - very generously sponsored by a brazilian business owner downtown!!! Let's stop corruption in Danbury and start discussing the issues.
commented by Anonymous Anonymous, 2:23 PM
The main issue is the influx of illegal aliens who have invaded Danbury.
That will remain the TOP issue with voters.
Abrantes is clueless and an illegal alien panderer, thats why she will not win.
Get it yet?
